This past spring, five people died and 216 were sickened when pathogen-tainted canal water was used to water lettuce. Yet no one farm or supplier has been identified as the cause of the contamination.  Given our nationwide mobile data coverage, our ability to detect E. coli quickly, and the explosion of IoT data capture devices, why is it still so hard to track down food-borne illness?
